Unfortunately I cannot fit a rear mounted bike rack on my car, and I currently have 120cm thule roof bars fitted, which can currently take 4 thule bike racks.

With a third child on the way, I've been thinking about the need for a roof box, but need at least three bike racks to keep the older kids and me happy....

Can anyone suggest any good slimline roof boxes that they know can fit alongside 3 thule bike racks on a 120cm wide roof bar? I've looked eveywher on the internet, but no such luck.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Russell

    Hi Russell

Couple of points. How big are the kids bikes. Anything less than a 26" (maybe a 24" will be ok) will struggle on a roof mount due to the way the upriser has to clamp to the bike. This will / may blow the roof option out straight away.

Thule do do slimline boxes i guess you have checked their web site. You will get a slimline and 2 bikes up on the roof. Yoyu may get, without pedals and bars turned in three on a 120cm.
Failing that they also do a rear box freeing up the roof or indeed a 4 bike rack that fits on to a tow bar. All options you might want to investigate.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks for your reply.

Kids bikes already tried and tested on roof. What i'd like to know is if anyone runs 3 bike racks on roof and a roof box. if so, what roof box.

I think a thule slimline box should do it, and if I flip round the middle bike rack, that might just do it.

if all else fails, i'll have to ride a 7 year old's GT Stomper when on holiday !

Why cant you fit it on the back? I have a towbar mounted thule which takes 4 bikes and it is way better and safer than any roof rack system for bikes.
  • Watch your weights on the roof too. Generally most cars have quite a low max weight for putting things on the roof. 3 bikes and a roof box may be pushing it.

I'd think about a rear/towbar mount as well. Depending on how often you need it, what about a small trailer?

What car are you driving, estate saloon etc?
