Do speedplay pedals give any other advantages over other pedal systems? Because i don't need or bothered about float.

double-sided, good ground clearance, large platform
with the zero if you don't want any float you can just adjust it outmy bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -
in my opinion, no.
the zero`s supposedly have an adjustable float. but in practise ,even when adjusted to nothing , theres still some movement there.
i must disagree with sungod, the contact area is to small and i found that my foot
rocked slightly. which made my ankles hurt. went back to using looks and the relief was unbelieveable.
i know that everybody else on this site raves about speedplays and i sometimes feel like
the loan voice, but i did`nt like them at all. so, if you dont need the float i would recommend you go elsewhere.constantly reavalueating the situation and altering the perceived parameters accordingly0 -
a lady in our club tried them - had problems clipping in - went back to spd in the end. So in my limited experience no benefit.0

contact area vs. some others, from speedplay...
CLEAT/SHOE CONTACT AREA
Speedplay 2849.2 MM²
Shimano 2106.0 MM²
Look Keo 1708.5 MM²
absolutely no play in mine, they do need to be correctly fitted, and not all shoes are compatiblemy bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -

speedplay cleat shoe contact area is massive , theres no problem there.
its the cleat pedal area that is the issue and to refine that even further , is not the total area , its the distance between the contact points. that gives you the stability.constantly reavalueating the situation and altering the perceived parameters accordingly0 -
I went from SPD-Rs to Speedplay. The transformation in the ease of clippling in and out is amazing. I might perhaps try Look pedals one day to see what they are like, but for now I'm a Speedplay convert and I can't imagine using anything else.Specialized Venge S Works

I quite like the Speedplay Zeros overall, with ONE major drawback: the cleats are very prone to clogging up with grit, grime and gunk which affects their clip-in and out performance dramatically. Otherwise they are good, although replacement cleats are ludicrously expensive.
Oh, and you MUST have the Coffee Stop covers as they are the worst of all the above for walking in!Open One+ BMC TE29 Seven 622SL On One Scandal Cervelo RS0 -
I used to have the Zeros and just didn't like them, now use Time and really like them.0

+1. The cleats are arguably an imperfect (and very expensive) design but as a whole the pedal system is excellent. The effective platform size is very large with Speedplays - I can't imagine them feeling unstable.0
