Fixing Headset Bearing?

Hi all, I'm new to Bike Radar.

I own a Raleigh Sports 200 and recently I can't turn my handle bar all of a sudden during a ride. My friend suspects the headset bearing might be cracked.

So I've some questions

1) How to fix headset bearing?
2) Is it worth it to get it fixed?
3) If in the end the bike is not fixable, how do I dispose it? Is there some kind of bike recycling unit in Birmingham (where I live) and perhaps able to get some money for it?

Many thanks to all.

It's pretty easy to fix with the right tools. Take it to a decent bike shop and ask them to replace the headset, it will probably be around £15 including fitting.
