Team Sky & Wiggo....all is forgiven (or is it)
I was very impressed with the efforts of Sky & Wiggo in the Giro yesterday. I had put Wiggo down as an also ran a few days ago, but it seems that Sky have comeback fighting (all be it with 59 other riders after 20km). It does show however that they were alert and hungry for action. Hopefully they can keep this up as it makes the Giro one of the best races of the year.
I have said in the past that in my eyes Wiggo is at best an unknown quantity when it comes to racing competiively over 3 weeks. Yesterday showed he might have a bit of metal in him after alll, 4th place on the stage was a good result.
I think the most significant ride of the day was Sastre & Tondo, but especially Sastre becasue he will attack in the mountains and can get some serious on his rivals. I think wiggo has to use the rolling hills in the next few days as a platform for further time gains.
That being said, his dress attire off the bike is still an travesty and a disgrace.

It was good to see Wiggo and his 'Sky boys' alert and ready for action, when the ambush kicked off after 20km. Evans clearly not happy with Vino (understandably). I didn't see much of the early part of the stage (Eurosport classic scheduling again), but I gather the move went when most of the riders were fiddling with rain capes and gloves etc?
But how did this elite group, containing the likes of Wiggo, Sastre, Tondo, Porte, Arroyo etc build a gap of 15 mins, when Astana, BMC, Liquigas, Androni etc had all their GC hopes in the chase group???
Made for exciting racing, though..............this is turning out to be the most entertaining Grand Tour I can remember.0 -

+1 great racing.
rain capes or not, no team should let 59 riders get away, even if they did not get a rime check....once they heard, 2 mni, 5 mins, hel even 14 mins, it should have been all guns blazing, but 17mins... disgraceful.
great tv though.0 -
I dont think you can blame ES for their coverage - 5 hours + of cycling would stretch even the most avid of fans.
Great ambush thats turned the field upside down - the Giro never disappoints.0 -
Cant remember back that far. :-)0

Ha ha!
You're only as good as your last Grand Tour...Le Blaireau (1)0 -
5+ hours coverage is more than all-but-the-most-avid fan could tolerate. Notwithstanding that, it would be nice to see a replay of key moments from early on in the stage. Obviously, this would only be required of there were key moments early on in a stage!
Would've been interesting to see the move go and the reaction of the the chase group when the finally realised they were in the sh1t.0
