I'm looking at getting a cheapish road styled helmet, budget of about £40-£50. Want something to look nice and have decent retention system.

What should I be looking at?

If your looking for budget I got the Specialized Chamoix for £30. Review said best helmet for the money not so long ago.

For a bit more money a Giro Monza is quite popular which is 50-60 online.

In truth though all the major manufactures make quality helmets and as is often the case with these things, you need to try on different manufactures to find which one suits your head.

Giro Monza was £49.99 in my local bike shop this dinner time. Looks like a nice helmet with various colour schemes red/black/white, yellow/black/white, blue/black/white.

Make sure you try it on - the different brands fit different shaped heads - it'll be terrible value for money if it doesn't fit you!

Simple answer "dont buy a cheap helmet " You will regret it if your head contactes the road.

I've tried a few different helmets on in the shops and i have a Giro Hex for MTB use so i know they fit well, but whenever I look in the mirror to see what the helmet looks like I think I look like i'm just wearing one of those old formie helmets they used to wear in Pro races, is this just something i'm gonna have to face up to and accept or do others look different?

Giro Stylus is blowing out for £20 at Halfords. I have a white large one and it's great. The fit is great and highly adjustable. Also, the bonus is that the hard plastic comes down a long way in back which is nice and safe.

Not the most ventilated but good for up to 20C.Hotter than that I have an Ionos.

Meh, they're all to the same standards or higher. And none of them (unless Snell goes this high) is designed to prevent a car.

I get on well with Bell crash helmets, they fit my bald head very well.

I use a Bell Sola, its me just fine and is vented OK.

Its cheap enough to replace on a regular basis.
