My 5-Spot is in dire need of some love and attention - I've been patching it up for the past couple of years as things have broken, but really it needs a proper service...
I'm in SW London (Twickenham really) and haven't really settled on a LBS so need some suggestions... personal experiences ideally. I've used Cyclopedia and they did an ok job on my hardtail, but was wondering if I've missed any others...
Also, I'll need the rear shock (DHX Air 5.0) serviced too - was going to get it Pushed, but they don't touch them so I guess Mojo's the best option?

Avoid MOORES on kingston rd between Teddington and Kingston ...
I hate bad-mouthing anyone ....... BUT .......
Absolute rip off in my opinion , i expected a few bits on a service but was told they wouldn`t look at it until i forked out for :- chain - £60
cassette -£70
rings -£75 ish
All prices included fitting but not the £60 service ....
Bearing in mind this is just a 6 year old 7 speed `HARDROCK` hack for park and towpath use and not knowing any better i bit the bullet and went for the managers patter of how much better it would be ...
1 1/2 hours later they called back to say it was done .......
Total bill was nearly £330 which included £25 for a mach hanger AND £23 for fitting (normal -1x5mm head screw) + £10 EACH for changing the 4 cables .
The upshot of this episode being I went out and bought a few tools and do it all myself now - not rocket science - but the smug git of a manager won`t get another penny off me
Like i say , knowing what i know now it WAS an absolute rip-off but you live and learn ..0 -
going to reiterate what these 2 above have said.
i used to work at moores, and disliked it intensely, but wont go into details.
action bikes on whitton high street are great as they are less than a mile away from me and very helpful. my little brother bent his mech hanger, we went to see them (they deal with trek - saved me ordering a BETD from work), they fitted the new one and re-adjusted his gears and only charged for the hanger. i was only looking to buy it but they did it all anyway. sound guys.0 -
Nice one hounslow - i hate bad mouthing anyone earning a living but manager dude looked at it as being beneath his pristine values to even look at such an old bike , despite being in pretty good nick ...
I went elsewhere when we got `ride to work` sorted and spent money where it was appreciated .
As for good shops i tend to get bits from CYCLOPEDIA (Ewell / Surbiton) or RECYCLED in Surbiton , sound dudes to a man 8)0 -
Go a bit further than Surbiton and try Freeborn in Esher, great service. Only been in Cyclopedia once and the Saturday staff were dicks so I've avoided it like the plague since.0
