Fast rear tyre.

Really impressed with th 2.35 Ignitor I have put on the front end of my bike but I found the 2.1 Highroller on the rear a little draggy last night. Thinking about a faster tyre to go on the rear and considering the following:
Maxxis Crossmark
Kenda Smallblock 8
Swalbe Racing Ralph
Bontrager XDX
Reviews seem to be really good about the Kendas, in fact I haven't read a bad one yet. The Crossmark seems to be great in really dry conditions but loses everything the second it gets damp so maybe not a good choice. The Bonty XDX came originally with the bike but I changed them as I found them too 'drifty' but that was when I started out and had little confidence. And the Ralphs are always raved about...
Experiences on the above choices please gents/ladies?
Many thanks.

A CrossMark on the back is ace for dry trail centres but if you want a really fast rear tyre, go for a 2.25 Rocket Ron. Burlier than a Racing Ralph but not as beefy as a Nobby Nic, it has a mega low-profile so it has the width but not the height. Traction on all kinds of loose, rubbly, rooty, cut-up dry terrain is astonishing and it flies on bash roads but mud is like kryptonite to it.
BTW I was expecting it to be Puncture City but it is holding up very well.0 -
+1 on the racing ralph
can't comment on teh others but I have a ralph 2.1 ust on the back and a 2.1 nobby ust on teh front. best combo I have found and does everything I needGT XC1 - the harder you ride it, the better it is
Stumpy FSR 2010 - Rides over everything and everyone0 -
Do'nt know if it helps much, but the rear tyre of choice here that rolls well in dry/ dusty /stoney conditions is the Maxxis Larsen TT..Every time I go out, I think I'm being checked out, faceless people watching on a TV screen.....0

a fast tyre has to be the razer mx, massive thing but so little tread. They do slide around a bit, even tubeless at lowish pressures (25psi) but insanely fast.0

Panaracer Razer XC or the MX version! Bloody fast and the XC isn't as slippy as you may think.Constantly trying to upgrade my parts. It is a long road ahead as things are so expensive for little gain. n+1 is always the principle in my mind.0

SmallBlock 8's for me - ridiculously fast rolling tyre and surprisingly grippy. I use them on my commute/hack bike all year round for a mixture of off-road/towpath riding.
I don't rate Ralph's having tried them out last summer.0 -
+1 for larsen tt.0

Ooh, careful not to put a faster tyre on the rear of the bike than you have on the front, or you'll just end up riding in circles.0
-
The small block is fantastic, it does the same job as the Larsen, just that it grips better in the dry and copes far better with the wet. Fair play, the Larsen's an older tyre but there's not much reason to buy one now, it's obsolete really.Uncompromising extremist0

Another vote here for the Racing Ralph - copes with pretty much everything apart from deep mud and rolls very quickly.0

blitz if you thought the Ron was quick, try a Furious Fred.
The Ralph is a great 'all round' tyre, not great in the mud, but anything else they're fine, front and back. If you do want something really fast then a Fred is absolutely unbeatable. Not much tread though.0 -

i swapped my racing ralph for a maxxis aspen and i wouldnt swap back, just as fast but climbing and cornering grip is way better, i found the racing ralph very skittish esp on loose dry stuff.0

Well, ended up nipping into Pedalon yesterday to see what they had and ended up getting a 2.25 Maxxis Crossmark LUST. Went for a ride over at Swinley and I was mightily impressed! Rolls really fast, not draggy at all like the Highroller, even though it's a bigger tyre (I ran 2.1 HRs) and grips really well through the bends, much better than I though it would. Well chufffed tbh, this Ignitor/Crossmark combo should see me through the summer! 8)Adam.
