ooops, think i posted this in the wrong forum before
hi guys, i have been recommended to visit this site as i am about to invest in my first moderately expensive(for me) bike.
i recently did the london to paris cycle ride and was set to do it on my kona dew plus hybrid, unfortunately my rear wheel was stolen outside halfords 2 days before the trip.
thankfully one of my mates stepped in and lent me his fully carbon custom made road bike with shimano 105 groupsets. i have to say, i fell in love with this bike and have decided to invest in something similar. to be honest i have been amazed at the choice,
my overall budget is £1300 but from that i will want to buy cleates, shoes and helmet etc etc, so realistically my budget for this bike is around £1000.
this is where i come stuck, i have been looking online and a few have tickled my fancy, namely the planet-x pro carbon comp with SRAM groupset. this is going for £999 at the moment.
i did like the look of the ribble sportive, (it looked amazing in the cycling plus magazines bestbuys 2010, but i found their bikebuilding website far to difficult to maneuver and couldn't get it anywhere near the prices quoted in the magazine.
basically im stuck, i feel that i want a carbon frame, but i don't know why to be honest. maybe its because i used a carbon bike for my london to paris ride and got quite attached.
also, i don't know what SRAM shifters will be like with their double tap, sounds as if it will be awkward, is it possible to skip through multiple gears like you can on a shimano?
anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, firstly, with regards to the Groupset, I use 105 and SRAM Force. I prefer the SRAM they appear to change better and I can down shift quicker.
Secondly riding Carbon and Alu, with this being your first bike, I would say go for the Alu with the promise of getting another bike later on (as you will), I cannot say if a Carbon is a better feel than Alu as I ride rubbish roads and the 23m tires on the Carbon compared to 25mm on the Alu make a difference I believe, however on an airfield (racing) the Carbon with 23mm tires is AWESOME, also hills are less of a problem with the Carbon frameset (obviously not on the airfield).
Finally, and I do honestly believe this regarding which bike.
a. TEST RIDE IT
b. Go for the one you like the look of.
Oh and,
Speedplay Zero
SIDI
