The closing date for the Bethany sportive on June 5th has been extended.

So if you have not done so you can still enter this acclaimed event from the outskirts of the Scottish capital. The 111mile route which is continually up or down would make ideal training for anyone attempting a mountainous continental event.

If that sounds a bit too much, you can join me on the 77 mile option.

You can enter on www.entrycentral.com and see some details on www.edinburghsportive.btik.com

I'm still hoping to make that one again. I did the short course last year and really enjoyed it. Lovely quiet roads and the best feed stations of any sportive I've been a (hmm - cake!!!)

Having done the longer course last year on the back of not very much training (and as a result suffering over the last 30 miles or so), I really enjoyed the shorter course this year.

Highlights: Lots of cake taken on board at both feed stops and bombing along the banks of the Tweed.
Lowlight: (Through no fault of the organisers) The state of the road between Middleton and Carrington. It looks like it's going to patched shortly, but what it really needs is a complete resurface. It's a disgrace that the NCN1 route into Edinburgh is in that sort of state. It's not entirely weather-casued either - the quarry vehilce have now carved out some nasty dips in the road as well.

Good to see Bethany managed to arrange some great weather again this year as well!

Aye the road between Middleton and Carrington is shocking!

It was never repaired after a couple of bad winters.

I use this rout regularly to get to the Borders, and it seems to get worse everytime I ride it.
