Internal hub for Pashley

I am doing up a much abused Pashley Princess and the three-speed internal hub is a right off, I am informed. I am being quoted £130 for a repair, then told the bearing race is all pitted as well so I need a new wheel. Sounds rubbish to me.

(My confidence on this is shakey as the mechanic said I had caused problems by using lithium grease on the bearings, rather than 'special light grease'. I had, he alleged, got grease into the gear hub and caused problems. Sounds utter rubbish. It was when trying to re-pack bearings, which were rusting, that this problem unravelled.)

Surely, any new hub would do as a replacement and I could remake the wheel.

Anyone know an internal hub mechanic in London?

To clarify. What they are saying is this: we will fit new internal parts to the hub for £130, but the bearing races are gone so I need a completely new hub and re-make the wheel.

St.John St cycles have a SRAM 3speed hub for £90. £130 should buy you a complete new wheel!

Other hub gears with 5/7 speeds are well over £100.
I would buy a new hub a rebuild the wheel.
