Are Planet X open to a bit of haggling?

I'm thinking about purchasing one of the new Planet X Nanolight bikes.
As I'll be spending about 2K on it I'd like to think there is room for a little haggling. Not looking to bargain hard, just a couple of spec upgrades here and there.
Does anybody have any experience of this with PX?
Cheers!

2 hopes....
(hint......Bob is dead)0 -
Its always worth a punt, the worse they could do is say no, nothing to lose by having a go 8)0
-
I am sure they would price match if you can find cheaper elsewhere.0
-
Would suggest that their fixed-spec builds are a no-go, but if you're building up to your own spec, than almost certainly.Cannondale Synapse 105, Giant Defy 3, Giant Omnium, Giant Trance X2, EMC R1.0, Ridgeback Platinum, On One Il Pompino...0

They're Yorkshiremen - You've got no chance0
-
You're right I've got no chance! There's no haggling with a Yorkshireman
I'll let you know how I get along...0 -
Best chance is to follow Cammish around for a bit in the hope he'll do something shady so you can get a nice photograph to use0
-
To be fair to PX - their business model seems to be 'pile 'em high, sell 'em cheap' so probably not much in the way of margins to haggle over. But as other have said - if you don't ask, you don't get.0
-
Considering the value you get from them I doubt if they will do any more than laugh at the thought of a discount when they are a good few hundred pounds cheaper than a big brand equivalent0
-
They used to have a notice on their website that said that they would only do discounts if you wanted large quantities!! Don't know whether it is on their new website though.0

Maybe they have read this thread. A nanolight with SRAM Rival groupset sells now for 1299 !!

SRAM Red costs only 200 pounds more :shock:0 -
Its not really Rival though, is it?
Its got lighter but fiddly and not as good break callipers. Open Glide cassette instead of the 2010 PowerGlide one, and an FSA chainset instead of the Rival one.x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x
Commuting / Winter rides - Jamis Renegade Expert
Pootling / Offroad - All-City Macho Man Disc
Fast rides Cannondale SuperSix Ultegra0 -

Not sure if the brake calipers are lighter, they're the 'Forged' option, not CNC!
I'm not sure if it's 2010 SRAM, either...
It's all in the wording, or, lack of it!Start with a budget, finish with a mortgage!0 -

The CNC option seems to cost extra 50 pounds. A plenty of other upgrades are also available, including the chainset.0 -
Its the very latest 2010 SRAM
Cassette is actually following powerglide model 10 CS PG 1070 CASSETTE 10SP 12-25
Brakes are a forged version of the cnc brake , weight is identical (might be a few g heavier) but forged ones are probably technically stronger -( though weve never broken a cnc one .) - the finish is smoother and doesnt have those little cnc milling lines in . These brakes are lighter than dura ace .
The chainset is fsa gossamer or energy on the red one - this is clearly done to reduce oists but its a pretty nice chainset that I think fabien Cancellara raced on at one point .
We can usually be pretty flexible0 -
Nanolight for 1499 with RED components.
Pros and Cons

Why don't you go and spend £2k on a decent brand, not a pile of cr*p0 -

I'm no 'fan' of Plant X in that I don't own one, but what evidence have you got that its a pile of cr** as you put it? Or is this simply a "its cheapo therefore its Sh*te" kind of post, In which case don't waste the OP's time. I'll bet there are dozens, nay thousands of PX owners faster than you, in fact I bet I am on my "Ford" Focus.

You sir are an arse who couldn't find his ass with both hands.
Planet X don't really haggle as they are so bloody good value to start with. You may get a shirt if you are lucky but their business model is to get a well designed frame with the best materials for as little as possible, they don't even make that much on their groupsets.+++++++++++++++++++++

This. Haggle when someone is clearly overpricing.
When someone is offering you a steal, they aren't going to give you discounts on top of it. Planet X is one massive discount. The British Empire never died, it just moved to the Velodrome0 -
