The job - This two-year Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between The Moulton Bicycle Company and the University of Bath is to develop a flagship R & D facility, specialising in bicycle suspension and small-wheeled bicycles.

The company - The Moulton bicycle is a renowned name in the cycle industry with a valuable brand image and heritage, offering a unique range of products with major advantages over conventional cycles. The company was founded by Dr Alex Moulton almost fifty years ago.

Candidate profile - A 1st, 2.1 or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing or Engineering Design is essential. As is familiarity and expertise in using engineering design software. Previous training on specific design packages and design experience in an engineering and industrial setting would be a distinct advantage. Both technical and hands on workshop experience is highly desirable. You must be able to display your design flair through previous engineering design work. You must demonstrate an analytical and numerate approach to your work and additionally should have commercial awareness.

The technical team at Bradford is small so you will need to show you can take on responsibility from the start in this challenging role. You may be expected to lead the business in new design directions so an entrepreneurial but consultative approach to developing ideas is required. We would also expect you to be a self starter with a persuasive and confident personal style and the ability to communicate at all levels of an organisation. Knowledge of and enthusiasm for cycling would be advantageous.

In addition to the salary and training budget the job includes the opportunity to study for a higher degree.
