About the Mid Life Cyclists Challenge
We are a group of 5 professionals who wanted to do something big for a good cause, without running a marathon.
The Mid Life Cyclists challenge will take in over 850 miles cycling from Santander's office in London to Santander's head office in Northern Spain, over 10 days from 19 May 2010.
Cycling 100 miles is the equivalent of running a marathon - so our little trip on wheels is the equivalent of about 8 marathons and that's if we don't get lost!

Who are we supporting?
We are putting ourselves through this challenge because between us we want to raise money for two very worthwhile charities, Shelter and Rethink.

Rethink is the leading national mental health charity that specialises in helping everyone affected by severe mental illness. 1 in 4 people will be affected by a mental health problem this year and your support will go to a very worthy cause. Funds raised will go towards supporting those that are unwell as well as paying for the lobbying of government and local authorities in terms of support offered to those unwell. There is also a National Advice Service (telephone) that ensures people have access to vital advice, information and advocacy at all times.

Many thanks for reading and supporting

Good luck with it all, just make sure you get the right ferry. You don't want to step off the ferry thinking you're in Northern France when in reality you have the beach of Santander ahead of you as you drive off the ferry after spending 36hours on board.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

    Hey thats cheeky.
Day 4 in Fontenay le comte and already blood sweat and tears.

Speaking of ferries just made it with 20 mins to spare on day 1.
A few falls etc. 35 degree heat, gosh its hard but somebody has to do it. Ty driving 85 plus miles every day with now air conditioning, oh and the cyclists to at least they have a nice cooling breeze.
Getting close to the target, however, any donations welcome please see below for links

    Just a wee update.
The cycle ride was completed successfully :D
860 odd miles in 10 days an impressive feat. Particularly when you consider how inexperienced they were.
It was great fun. Yes! There was blood sweat and tears including a helmet that was broken after a fight with disused french railway crossing the road. Panic for more ferries, one even missed
Learned to check for snakes before going behind the bushes
The temp even got up to 40 degrees. Even the french cyclists were complaining it was too hot.
4 punctures, tweak of a gear cable, no other mechanicals.
Highlights! The finish of course, french hospitality, Atlantic coast, Royan, San Sebastian
