Hi,

I have a 9 speed Shimano HG chain and have had some problems with a link being stiff and obviously the winter grime. So I removed it, soaked it in de-greaser and now it is lovely and clean.

My question is that do I have to use a special chain pin to reconnect the chain back up? What would happen if I just re-use the pin I have part removed?

dont re use the pin, it will fail at some point, reconnect using a sram powerlink, then you can take it off when ever it needs a clean.

Bin your shimano chain and use SRAM never had a chain issue in 6 years since using them
