Eurosport for cheap

As far as I can see, the cheapest way to watch Eurosport is by taking out a Sky package.

I'm excluding the internet option of Eurosport Player here - I tried it last year and found my viewing pleasure was often interrupted by not having anything to view. Just when it was getting to the good bits.

Eurosport used to be on Top Up TV but that no longer seems to be the case.

Are there any options that don't involve lining Murdoch's pockets yet further?

Thanks I'll give it a look - might be a good solution as I have them for broadband and mobile.

Thanks but I'm rubbish at technology - what does pointing it mean. I do have a satellite dish still on the house from a previous Sky contract so this could work?

Old dish is very likely to be pointing in the correct direction - is the LNB still connected to the dish arm ?
If so then all you would need is the cable to the receiver and away you go.

TBH apart from one screw up on one stage of the TdF last year, Eurosport Player has been smashing for me. However I'd find a TV subscription useless anyway, as I don't have a TV in Manchester, and Eurosport Player means I can watch stuff anywhere I am that has Internet.

It's not in English it's in German and it doesn't show exactly the same things as British Eurosport.

I was watching the Giro on it but some days Eurosport Germany decided to go with the tennis instead of cycling whilst British Eurosport went with cycling.

It depends how old the old sky contract was.
Sky TV changed satellite in 2000-2001 when it changed to digital, from 19.2E to 28.2E (degrees in the sky). There are still plenty of other broadcasters using the old satellite though, and one of them happens to be Eurosport. So if your dish is old enough to be pointing at the old satellite, and is still cabled into the house, then you are ready to watch it. It's easy to check - just compare with neigbours. If your dish is pointing "wrong" then - assuming it hasn't moved - it is presumably pointing in the old direction.
But be aware that the satellite broadcasts both digital and analogue services. As well as a dish pointing in the old direction you'll need an old box as well, which received analogue rather than digital signals. Search ebay for "analogue satellite" and plenty will pop up. Once you get one, just plug it in and browse the channels. There will be a lot of rubbish, but there will also be Eurosport in English.

I know why you think this. Eurosport broadcasts twice from 19.2E, one in digital (use a modern box) and one in analogue (use an old box).
The analogue feed has English audio.
The digital one - which must be the one you are thinking of - is only in German.

    End of satellite TV geekery.

Can't you get it by buying a freesat box if there is an unused sky dish on your house? We used to get Eurosport as a free channel when we didn't have a valid viewing card on our old sky system.

Foxsat Humax HD Freesat receiver is what I use to watch the German version.

Eurosport is not part of freesat though. The receiver has a non freesat mode wich allows it to work as standard receiver. I have a motorised dish so can swing it around from 28 to 19.2e

Freesat and Freesat from sky are separate platforms.

I decided (much to my GF relief) that the Iphone App was probably a much safer option than faffing about leaning out of a 3rd storey flat window with a socket set, trying to realighn my dish!
