I'm about to order one of these but I cannot make up my mind which one to go for.

Does anyone has one of each to compare?

  • I decided on the giordana from ribble as they were only £53 a pair. If they hadn't been that cheap I would've got the shutt ones.

So you think the Shutt could be better? I have not found enough reviews about them, on the other hand there are lots of people that are quite happy with the Giordana Tenax.

I would not mind paying the extra cash for a better bib but I just don't know if shutt are worth the extra cash.....

Hi - As I work at Shutt, we have sent out shorts to all the mags recently, so fingers crossed we get a review soon.. There are a few blog reviews and something went on road.cc today... Worth looking a CW Online Bargain of the week for a promo code...

I am sure we must have a few pro bib users on this forum who can chip in??

    Hello Pete,

    Thanks for your post.

Because your bibs are relatively new there is no much information about them.

The pad is the most important part for me, I know it is a coolmax but so are the aldi bibs

If anyone in this forum is wearing these bibs no one is yet saying so - I've seen a couple of people commenting on the £29 option.

What is "CW Online Bargain" ?....

Anyway, I need to make a decision very soon as I want to order before wend if I can. So far I can only make an informed decision about the Giordana bibs.

We are all out of the standard bibs be weeks before we can get more :(...

The Pros have an Italian progel pad.. It is superb and a nice sky blue colour like a certain swiss manufacturer..

    Happy riding, Pete

When are the new shorts due out? Been waiting ages for mine! (Thought it would be only a couple of weeks when I accepted the offer to wait having paid for some of the 'Sean Kelly shorts a couple of months or so ago.)

Depends if you wear them out I guess... Our returns policy does state that labels be attached and in saleable condition... ;-) and if you really like them would you pay full price :-D

    Pete,

I was reading Parker international, the place that sells the Giordana and it says "Please try on over underwear before you go out on your bike. Only then can we offer an exchange if the garment does not fit." - so my question was based under the same conditions..... I would just try them out..... my fault for not making it clear

Thanks for your help but I think I will order Giordana Tenax this time..... maybe when shutt are better known and one can find more reviews I will order them. I already own a pair of Giordana bibs and they are very comfortable so the tenax being more expensive should be better :D

We'd certainly exchange if they didn't fit, that's our fault really given we provide the sizing chart etc..

Worth taking a look at this thread first before you leap..

I'd be happy with Giordana Tenax, you wont make a bad choice with either pairs..

    Thanks, Pete

Thanks for the link and thank you for your honesty..... Giordana Tenax must be good if the competition appreciate its quality......

Between the Shutt pro and the Assos FI something, which would you say has the thicker pad? I know that thickness is not strictly an indicator of comfort but I'd like to know anyway :D

As some of you may be aware I am a bit Shutt fan and I finally got some pro-shorts at the weekend, unfortunatly too late for my Saturday ride but that did not stop me from wearing them around the house. A couple of years ago I splashed out on some Assos shorts which I love for long rides but like some other posts I have had some bobbleing on the legs (no where near the saddle). When I got the Shutt shorts I was suprised that the insert looks very similar to the one in my Assos ones, just a little bigger at the front and it does feel a little thicker but that may be down to the Assos ones compressing over the passed couple of years . The material is very smooth as well and they feel well put together. The bib bit is wide and very comfortable off the bike, just need to road test them now.

I can't comment on the Giordana ones but can compare them to my Assos ones which were a lot more money and don't appear to be any better.

Plus if you become a club member which is free you get a 10% discount on your purchases which has gone up from 5%.

    Hope this helps

Well, after reading all the posts and links I could not find enough relevant reviews to convince me that shutt pro bibs are better or as good as the Giordana Tenax. I'm sure the bibs are good but they are still too new for enough people to write about them on the internet..... still, I thought I would get a pair and judge them by myself and then write a proper review here :D .... so I went to the website, used the code for 20% off and they were still more expensive than the Giordana Tenax..... and when I realised that the postage wasn't free I gave up  .... so I ordered a pair of Giordana Tenax from Ribble. I still have a few quids left for another pair of bibs so I might get a shutt or another Giordana if I think they do the job well.

Thanks to all members that tried to help with information and suggestions.

That would be great. I hope you go for a long ride before you do that review cause that still seems to be a grey area with these bibs.....

I'm kind of tempted to order a pair now  , that would be the second pair of bibs in less than 12 hours :D Ribble are not the fastest with delivery (free shipping though :D ) so I'm thinking if I order a pair of shutts now I might just have a new pair of bibs to ride this weekend :D

What the heck, I'll order now :D

I have Assos F1 Uno S5 and Giordana Tenax 2010. The Assos are a lovely short and very comfortable however I prefer the Tenax. The pad is slightly thinner in the Giordana however on a 75 mile 5hr ride they were amazingly comfortable and no pain/discomfort from the bottom at all. I like them so much I have bought a second pair from Ribble as they have them on a great discount - went for the black/red this time after getting black the first time round.

The Tenax I recommend wholeheartedly and for me equally comfortable to my Assos - and I am not making a compromise in my view because the Giordana are cheaper - they genuinely are as good as Assos and better because they are half the price.

    Enjoy. :D

AlaPlague, I have heard really good things about the Tenax and I'm looking forward to trying my new tenants soooooon :D - Ribble are also doing a good deal on Assos FI and I did consider ordering a pair today but in the end I just went for the Tenax.

Thanks for the info, I'm sure you are quite right on your judgement.....

Thanks Pete, I got my bibs this morning.... top marks for service!!!! I just came back from a 20 miles lunch time ride.... like a little kid with a new toy

I would like to do a proper review of these bibs when I do a long ride, hopefully tomorrow!!!! However, the first judgement on 20 miles is a little hit and miss..... First impressions were good, it's clearly a well made garment. nicely finished and nice materials. The pad looked good and gives an impression that it will be very comfortable. I like the fact that the front part is large so is not too revealing  unlike other bibs that I have  The XL fits well and feels a bit snug but that is fine. Now the most important part, how comfortable they are while riding. This is a very personal choice but my guess is that they probably are just as comfortable or slightly less comfortable than my cheap Giordana bibs that I have, so slightly disappointed on that account as I had high hopes they would be marbellous (so, very hopeful on the new Giordana coming next week) The question here is, will they continue to offer the same comfort level after 50 or 70 miles? If they do then that was money well spent cause my cheap Giordana are comfortable up to about 30 miles or thereabouts.

An important observation that I have been suspecting for a while..... plane inserts feel better on my brooks saddles. More engineered inserts don't seem to be as comfortable on my brooks - that could only be my personal experience or perhaps not....

So, I'm hoping these shutt pro bibs will be comfortable at 50 or even 70 miles as they can cost nearly 3 times as much as the cheap Giordana.....

Interesting comment re: Brooks saddles... They are all I ride now. I find my Swift gets to be hard on the rump with coolmax inserts in our std bibs after 50 miles and has now become a permanent fixture on my MTB which I don't do long miles on..

Have found our pro bibs and my B17's to be a perfect partnership, even on a brand new unbroken one on my Audax up in Ilkley.

There's a review of the pros on CW forum too with some good points for those people who stray over that way.

We'd like feedback on our kit so we can improve it... Being cyclists ourselves we have to be careful not to design stuff only we like.

    Cheers, Pete

I like the slightly thinner pad on our standard bibs on my Brooks Swift - no idea why but it feels slightly more comfy at times. The Assos pad is great for my Adamo but doesnt seem to offer a huge amount more on the softer Swift ti.

Miggers - did I see you are selling those again? I thought I read they were discontinued and only the Pro's from now on? I could probably do with another pair if they are going to be available again?

    cheers

We pushed the factory to make some more at the same price... They did want to increase it by too much that we just couldn't do them for under £30.. The boss pushed them on the basis that they make more Pros too and result...more due in 2-3 weeks. We've even persuaded them to use a higher quality lycra too..
