A great loss indeed. By all accounts he sounded like a great man and made a huge contribution to music!0

I have been fortunate to have seen the great man himself in action, although over 20 yrs ago and often take time to re-visit him through my ageing LP collection
I wanted to share his music with my son, who is now 16 and should have seen him in Bristol a couple of months ago until he pulled out due to his condition.
Its not until someone leaves us that we miss them.
RIP

Sad - was into that sort of stuff aged about 10-13 through my older brother - think the LP was Rainbow Rising - memories.
it's a hard life if you don't weaken.0 -
A lovely guy as well- I met him in 1992 on the Dehumanizer tour and such a humble friendly guy- nothing was too much trouble
Strange that he was very quietly spoken but his voice seemed to cut through above everyone else, and of course that carried through to his singing voice
A rare talent0 -
Saw him perform with Heaven and Hell at Wacken last summer. It was amazing, he had true stage presence and an amazing voice,

Yep, great album. The late great Cozy Powell on the drums.

sad news indeed.. I saw him twice at Hammersmith Odeon with Black Sabbath. He had a hard act to follow Ozzy but I thought he was very good ...0
-
I saw him at Deeside Leisure Centre... Brilliant...
A bit like Bon Scot... In that they're irreplaceable.Start with a budget, finish with a mortgage!0 -
First saw him with Rainbow (in 1976?) then he revitalised Sabbath with the Heaven and Hell/Mob Rules albums (saw him on those tours) and with Dio a few times. He enunciation was always superb, you could hear all his lyrics, none of this 'RAWKANDROWLALLNIGHTPARTAAYHOWYADOINWELUVYA' stuff. Whatever band he was with he made better.M.Rushton0

apparently when they supported bon jovi at donington in 1988 every other bands vocals were lost in the sound mix, apart from dio. A class act.
Dio and Freddie Mercury are dead. Boy George and Holly Johnson are still alive and "singing". No justice in this world :shock:0 -
yeah lol and the leader singer from journey who sang the original of "Don't stop believin"
That would be Steve Perry, otherwise known in music circles as 'the voice' a well merited acclaim.
the 'original' you mean there have been other versions? nah0 -

You should listen to Sam Cooke then Steve Perry and see where it all came from. Saw Journey with Steve Perry but within Journey he is actually hated as the man who cost them a lot of money and nearly ruined their careers altho' guitarist Neal Schon would always be highly regardedM.Rushton0
