What bibshorts? Nicer than DHB Earnley! Giordana?

My first pair of bibs were some DHB Earnleys. I am looking to buy another pair, but want something a bit nicer but not too expensive(as ever).

The DHB ones are very shiny and a bit cheap looking. When I went riding with a buddy clad in Pearl Izumi I noticed that his shorts looked much classier - off black with a less cheap, slightly more matt finish - I am hoping that my next pair will look a bit nicer too!

I was hoping to spend up to about £45, which I realise isn't much compared to some, but was hoping to get something nicer than the Earnleys. If anyone has any suggestions they would be gratefully received!

My initial thoughts were some Giordana Silverline: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Giord ... 360050166/

Or some Pearl Izumi Quest: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Pearl ... 360049824/

I can get them for a fair price. Are these decent bibs in terms of quality and/or value, better than the DHB or am I just paying for a name?? Are Pearl Izumi Attack worth the extra?

Thanks all, sorry for the long post!

for me the silverlines are the best going but then they may not suit you.
I also have some endura fs260 pro shorts but although they are very well made they sit to hg for me at the back(they are shorts not bibs)

I have some Santini Top from Pendas. They're much, much better than DHBs IMO and only £45. They fit me really well and the pad is good so very comfortable (for me).
    More problems but still living....

I find the Earnley's really uncomfortable (yes I know what should I expect for 30 quid) the stiching around the pad seems to rub in a way that the winter Earnleys didn't.

Given that the DHBs are the worst shorts I've ever had, anything would be an improvement!

Can't really go wrong with Giordana, as long as they fit. The Silverline and the Tenax both do the job at a reasonable price.

Looking positive for the Giordana then. If anyone has any advice with sizing it would be a great help. I have heard they come up small - I am 5' 10.5", 32" waist 33" inside leg and considering an XL.

Ok thanks for that. According to the sizing chart I would be a large, but the reviews on CRC repeatedly come up with them being small, particularly in the shoulde strap department!

Makes it a bit difficult to decide on size, as you can imagine.

Have just bought my first pair of bibs having only used cheap Aldi stuff before on my MTB. But must say in six years I''ve never had a sore bum!Now I have a road bike I needed some extra padding for the harder saddle.Got these from my local LBS but are the same as these.

I just love the gel pad and the multi fit panels really do hug my thighs.Done a couple of 25 miles and seem very good.Infact went commando for first time (usually wear padded undies aswell) and had no probs.I know they aren't a well known make but quite a few shops seem to be selling them. The LBS uses them for his shop team so I took the plunge. Will buy another pair soon as I don't think I'll go back to shorts again.
  • DVV, I am also 5' 10.5" with a 32" waist and the Giordana Tenax in Large fit me spot on. I have three pairs of them and think they are great value when you take into account the quality and cost - especially if you can get them when say Ribble are doing one of their offers. If your legs are a scrawny like mine then I think the XL's might be a bit baggy round the thighs.

Thanks all. I have now ordered some Giordana Silverline in XL - i'm a reasonably solid 85Kg! Cost me about £38 inc. postage, hopefully I will like them!

I prefer the DHB Knowle's to my Assos S5 Unos, although going to try Giordana Tenax or Santini Gel ones next time as most seem to rate them.
