    Anyway, I'll accept that signs must be accurate. But I do think the guidance covers and includes the bollards you said don't count (going by the extracts & references I posted earlier in the thread).

    As for the road design being for motor vehicles, the traffic calming centre reservation is actually to slow them down and provide pedestrians with a safe refuge to stand on when crossing in heavy traffic. Should one be crossing and be hidden by the heavy traffic, they too will be looking to their left as they start across the refuge.

    Naturally seeing the road to be clear, they will step straight in front of you. Of course, not being a driver, you will never miss seeing them, even if it's a kid, will you?

    Of course, if I take the opposite view when I'm driving, surely there's nothing wrong with speeding when the road is empy, late at night. My judgement will be sufficient to meet any emergency - I am, after all, a cyclist and a morally superior road user.
