electronics help required for my car

ok, im a trained mechanic but my weakness is electrics or more specifically, electronics.
i need to fit some remote central locking to my car to change the manual central locking into a remote set up.
i have the system and have got it to work as it should but have a problem with my set-up on my impreza.
basically, the door lock circuit looks like this:
when the door is unlocked, a circuit is broken which unlocks all of the doors. this makes enough sense to me but i have a remote central locking unit which provides a short pulse, when the circuit is closed, the doors all lock. this is normally enough to open any other system but as soon as the pulse stops, the circuit remains open and the doors unlock again. whilst the pulse is providing voltage, the doors remain locked, as soon as the pulse stops, the doors unlock
is there somekind of switch i could put into the circuit which can be opened and closed (and remain opened or closed)with a short pulse? do i need a relay or a diode or something
sorry about the poor description and thanks in advance.

Hello, At a guess without seeing the instructions and knowing nothing about impreza central locking system shouldn’t the remote central locking unit be connected in parallel not in series with the main door lock motor? Since I don’t think the main door lock motor gets the lock signal so stays open? So when the pulse ends from the remote central locking unit the central locking module that is fitted to the car see the main door lock motor in the unlocked position so unlocks the rest of the doors.
Have you connected a multi meter to the two wires that go to the main door lock motor? If not remove the remote central locking unit and see what voltage you get in the unlocked and locked positions.
One work around if the remote central locking unit is not compatible with the cars central locking system is have the remote central locking unit control its own central locking motor which you fit to the drivers door beside the one already fitted.
