My weekly rides have slo?wly been creaping up from 10miles to 35 and now upto 45 and so far not a puncture in sight............. until today FFS....................... I hadnt done a puncture for at leat 20 years...... first thought wheres the jack!!!
Finally soretd myself out due to a spare tube but realised my tyres are past it as they are on the limit. Just wondering if anybody knows of any good deals on tyres at present before I check the usual suspects ...... wiggle etc
ps Ive got standard shimano rims but havent a clue about folding tyres , clinchers , wires .... what do I need

You want tyres for clinchers (as opposed to tubular tyres).
Whether it folds or or is wired makes little difference. With tyres you have fast and light at one end and heavy, slow, but puncture proof at the other end. If the most important thing for you is puncture protection, then look at Schwalbe Marathons or Duranos (the plus models of each being even more protective). If you want to go quick and be grippy then try Continental Grand Prix 4000.
All clincher tyres will fit Shimano rims.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX

You'll get a million different views on tyres. All I can say is that I love these (Conti 4000s) tyres, good re puncture resistance and roll beautifully. I've just ordered another pair as this (£50) is a good price. Hope this helps.

Thnaks guys im doing around 100 miles a week but thats increasing and riding for fitness but eventually would like to join a club and do some sportives etc. Im down for the London to Brighton ride and I guess im after a training / fitness tyre with a element of protection oh and that makes the tea in the morning0

I've just put GP4000s' on my Tri bike. 200 miles in and something has sliced them right open. I love the grip they give (and the GP4000's I've had before (note the locations of the apostrophes are correct)) but I don't think they are for commuting pressure at 120psi since you will have punctures.
For me, if you aren't going to be pumping them all the way up and riding quickly then it kinda defeats the point.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX

Vittoria Rubinos are good, whether you go for the folding (pro) makes little difference to the riding

Well, this weekend I've punctured both a Gatorskin and a GP4000s. I'll tell you if the Krylion Carbon on the front wheel punctures on the way home, just so I've got a full house of all the tyres recommended in this thread.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX

Whatever you opt for, check the various usual places - Wiggle, Chain Reaction Cycles, JE James etc for the best deals. I like Mich Pro Race 3 for my sins. These were on offer on all sites last week at anything between £23 and £35 a pop. Shop around folks.0

Just started getting some punctures after 6 months without any.
Was recommended the Specialized Roubaix Armadillo Elite, which I fitted to the rear as that was the one causing me the problems.
Very impressed with the road resistance, comfort and grip. Have now fitted another to the front and tried them out last night.
The comfort difference is amazing, no puncutres, and average speed of 17.2 mph over 25 miles. The speed has gone up from 13mph from Feb/March, mainly due to improved fitness but these new ones do appear to roll well.
Don't know what the grip is like in the wet as there is no tread but assured they are ok. No puncture yet but only been on for a week so a bit early to claim they are an improvement regarding puncture resistance.0
