Suggest the classic MBR best bits of ladybower loop for you if your new to the Peak. Good mix of ups and dows as you have asked and comes in at about 19miles. Id suggest starting from the Fairholmes visitor centre off of snake road and doing the route clockwise taking in Winstone Lee Tor as the first descent of the day. :)

Is that near Castleton, as I have found a good route in a really old magazine which includes Castleton, Mam Tor, Cavedale and Edale station. As a non-driver from Bolton, it seems like a good ride. Any advice?
    Cheers :)

Yep that's it. Great ride, Cavedale is tough and full of people though but still fun

I live in and ride peak district all the time we are riding out from new mills swimming pool car park Thursday 20th may 6 pm anyone is welcome. Anyone looking for riding company around new mills area is welcome to msg me to arrange a ride :)
  • Edale area is amazing. Start in castleton, head up the old disused road /land slip road to the top of mam tor, take a left and pick up rush up edge (watch our for the devil figures on the gates locks at the top!!). You then have a choice of handing a right down chapel gate http://monkeyspoon.com/tracks/track-chapel-gate which is very steep, very rocky .

Or you can go straight on down rushup edge pick up roych clough (one of my favorite rides) at the end of roych clough you head up to South head of kinder, as you decend down into hayfield you come across a cross roads, turn right and pick up the bridal way into hayfield, taking in an amazing down hill with views of kinder and then a great little single track section into hayfield.

In hayfield pick up track up kinder, head to the summit (two options), from summit of kinder decend down jacobs ladders. Then in edale, cycle up road section to mam tour. Take a left and follow the bridal way to hollins cross, amazing ridge section with great views. At hollns cross take a right and decend into castleton. Job done.....

If you do pick up chapel gate, this will drop you into edale, then you can cycle back up to mam tor, turn left, follow ridge to hollins cross and decend into castleton.

This is as good as it gets....enjoy :-)

The Cut Gate route is a good ride out while it's dry and the ground's firm.
Start from one of the car parks near the Fairholmes visitor centre at Ladybower and head up the side of the reservoir on the cycle track. At the end of the cycle track take the bridleway up onto Midhope Moors, over the top and down to Langsett. Around the resevoir and back up onto the moor and return the way you came back to the car park.
You're looking at around 23miles and 4-5hours riding.
