Hi Everyone,
As the title says, I'm a complete newbie to the world of mountain biking I always had a bike as a kid and spent a lot of time out and about, riding round farms and the moors. I've not really ridden much for a good 7 years, but in the last few months have been out on a few trails down in the Peaks and down in Wales.
I am now looking to treat myself to a 'proper' bike and am a little boggled by it all. I have rented a Kona Five-0 a few times and really enjoyed the ride. I've always wanted a Kona but never been able to afford one. But alas, I have a new job, and thought I'd treat myself!
I've been looking at the Kona Five-0 Deluxe 2009, I like the look of the bike and I've enjoyed using them before. I am wanting to do general off road riding and some light downhill, nothing too adventurous (not yet anyways), so I'm a bit worried about the weight of the bike for going up hill.
Do people have any thoughts on the spec of the Five-0, or any other bikes I should perhaps consider? I have looked at specialised and cannondale, but havn't been particularly taken with any of them....
Sorry for that long waffle!
Cheers,
Kate

I would buy one: testing is always the main thing with a mountain bike, and as you have done that, got used to the bike and enjoyed it then it is the natural choice.0

I think I will probably settle for the Five-0, but I was attempting to keep an open mind. Have also looked at a couple of Commencals, but having no idea about mountain bikes, I wasn't really sure if they were a good brand to go for.
This was the one I was looking at:

I'm a bit miffed that I can't get cycle2work, or bike4work or any similar schemes, as that would've saved me a fair whack. Nevermind!0 -
That is very good value with the Commencal - great forks, some nice kit.
The 5-0 is a different beast all together - much longer travel fork, heavier, and built for tougher riding. If that is what you want. It will certainly do light DH better.0
