Hi People, i've just purchased a new bike with Ultegra 2010, the ones without the cables coming out of the hoods.

I went out this morning at 0530 and it was bloody cold! I wore some gloves, cheap ski gloves from Lillywhites that i bought last year, had been wearing them without any problems on my previous bike with Sora shifters, however i had to take them off this morning half way into the ride as couldn't change gears.

I noticed that due to the finger thickness, it was touching the right 'change down' lever and therefore when i went to change up, the lever was just swinging loosely and not changing, this is what it seems to do when you hit the 'down change' leaver before the up lever, providing i only use one at a time it works perfectly!

However, i need some gloves as the weather doesn't look likes its going to heat up any time soon, what suitable gloves would you recommend that won't interfere with my shifting?

  • I have been shifting my ultegra easily and I've been wearing my MTB full finger gloves and my cheap Aldi cold weather gloves.

Ski gloves are way to bulky
Bianchi. There are no alternatives only compromises!

I wear SealSkins All Weather gloves in the cold/wet, and although I have to be a little more precise with finger placement, I haven't had any problems.

I have some good gloves but AFAIK they are only compatible with Tiagra and 105.
    More problems but still living....

I these are fantastic - close fitting, well made, durable and good down to 3 deg or so. My red ones look great as well:

They'll be fine with any shifters of course!

Not for proper rain if it's cold as well, but fine in showers (of rain).

    Fupp - 10 or 11 speed ?

Gloves I find are very personal - what's warm for one rider may be too cold for the next. If its VERY cold ill be on my fixed in ski gloves - so no gears to change - sorted !

I quite like the Spesh Deflect gloves (which are fine with my 105 STI shifters):

However, I strongly recommend you try any gloves on first because I have found that the fingers are all slightly different (some longer/thinner than others) and the overall sizes also vary between brands.

I did need some heavier duty gloves in the pits of last winter but, then again, there was 6 inches of snow in the surrounding fields.
