I've been very interested in the Roadrat Alfine as well, having settle on buying a Giant XTC 1 I kinda thought I might be better with a dedicated road bike as most of my use is going to be on-road anyway, however I was wondering if the Roadrat is suitable for further afield road riding, I really want to use my bike to get fitter, and I want something I will be able to use for longer on-road riding at the weekend.,

One of the reasons I got a Roadrat is that a mate of mine was riding one on the audaxes I was doing last year. I remember loosing his wheel as he accellerated way uphill during the Elenith 300km and the Bryan Chapman 600km

Furthest I've been on mine to date is 100km but it's set up as a commuter bike with heavy tyres and I have other bikes
