Bottom Bracket Facing

I'm getting a new chainset for the Kona which has an external bottom bracket. Haven't had one fitted to the frame before. When I take the frame into the LBS for facing, do they need the bottom bracket there or not? Thanks

Does it really need to be faced?
Newer bikes <3yo (even if they have cartridge BBs fitted from new) will be properly faced when made by the major manufacturers.
If it has paint over the faces, just wet and dry it off and see if they look parallel - if they do put the external BB in, fit the cranks and if everything is running smoothly (no tight spots at all) for a full 360 degree turn, they'll be ok.0 -
If you're in doubt its always best to have the bottom bracket faced. Should be a simple and quick job for a bike shop. The you KNOW there right.Planet X Kaffenback 2

If you think so then go ahead, you may be wasting money.
If your cranks are as smooth as and you're not eating BBs more than you'd expect, you've just wasted the money.0 -
For the sake of 15 quid, about half the cost of a BB, it is worth it IMHO.0
