I'm doing a long ride with work in a couple of weeks and was wondering what's best to keep energy levels up on the ride.

Would you recommend specialist energy snacks or are the usual supermarket grain bars and bananas sufficient?

I don't use any specialist suff for that distance ride. Nutrigrains, bananas, Jaffa cakes and plenty of fluid keeps me going.

I Have 100G of carbs per hour washed down with plenty of water on long rides.

My carbs of choice. bananas, dates and Fig Rolls. I keep the gels for racing.

Stay of the fat for a while before.

    Enjoy the ride.

As above - fig rolls, bananas, dried fruit, eccles cakes. A little and often.

During the 94 train strike, did a few Colchester/London rides. 55 miles too.

Mtb with slicks. No food, just orange squash. Was bloody starving when I got to work tho!

Dried apricots (Because i love them), banana chips or a proper banana, plus plenty of water. Maybe think about adding in some electrolites to the water to replace some of the ones you burn off.

That does me just fine :)

allsports SR3 in your camelbak - is all you need.

after a good brekkie that is.

The SR3 is fantastic, cheap, really pleasant to drink and works a treat!

Did 44 miles yesterday on 3 bottles of caffeine boost Lucazade, 4 Nutrigrain bars and 4 choc-chip Tracker bars, didn't feel especially hungry for a proper meal when I got back either and I have a ludicrously fast metabolism.

All the recommendations are good, anything with carbs really. Also try out Elete water, great stuff :)
