So,coming home tonight got a slow puncture, to add to the frayed front brake cable I spotted last night when changing my brake blocks. Then just as I changed gear coming into my road, snap! the gear cable gave up the ghost. snapped right at the shifter. Over an hour later all seems good and gears working ok. Hope so as doing the Circle of Hope 100 in aid of Clatterbridge Cancer reasearch, fingers crossed..

ps If you can please sponsor me at http://www.justgiving.com/philathamthemadcyclist

(this was not my reason for posting by the way, just an afterthought, I really do want to know if anyone had it worse than me )

not bike related but im going to have cut knuckles when my cars had new cam belt kit, new copper brake lines, new brake pads, new radiator, new water pump, new throttle sensor, usual service on top, maybe wheel bearing (squeaking started while im waiting for the other parts to be delivered) and finally the exhaust isnt sounding as polished as it once was. its just a good job its kind of a hobby and i will enjoy the satisfaction of effecting a good mend. until then lots of swearing and head scratching. sorry to go off topic but ive got to find time to get the bike out as well amongst all the grey cloud doom.

I rode a very wet weekend in Wales so the bottom bracket and freehubs had to be completely disassembled. cleaned, greased and reassembled. While I was at it the cassette on Campag is in single sprockets so each of them came off the freehub body and were cleaned and regreased.
The rear derrailuer was also taken to bits, cleaned and put back. The chain was removed, cleaned and the other chain fitted
Also, previous to this the lever had snapped off the LH shifter so I sent it off to be repaired. This came back so the LH shifter was replaced and the bar tape on the LH side.
Oh yeah and I'd had a lot of punctures so i got new typres, they went on too

I did a "test ride" to the pub ( it was vital to check the bike worked ) and everything seemed ok. It seemed even more ok after 2 pints
