My copy of Cycle Sport has just arrived with:
Christian Vande Velde
America's No.1 Tour Contender?

emblazoned on the front. Terrible timing.

  • It won't beat their Tour preview issue that hit the shelves at roughly the same time that Puerto kicked of involving about 5 out of 6 riders on the cover!

Then there was the Floyd Tour de France winner cover, or was that Cycling Weekly? They have to quickly print loads of "Tour Scandal" stickers to put on the front of them IIRC.

Pro Cycling's July and August 2006 Issues too

"Basso Vs. Ullrich: The battle that really matters this July!"

    Followed by "It's Floyd!"
"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Actually that's cleverly worded — allows for various possibilities.

    Interesting quote from the article:

"I have the capacity to withstand beating myself up a lot, really bad - I can sustain a really high workload for a long time. I produce a lot of lactate, but my body is really good at eating it all up. I have a bigger engine than almost everybody in the whole peloton. It's just that my chassis is all screwed up."

Big words from him. Funny that the self-proclaimed biggest engine hasn't the results I would have thought someone with this description would have.

Tests, potential mean nothing - the road and the race results count.

I hope he recovers well and sets these A-grade qualities to work and gets top 5.

Another thing he says, talking of Lance's criticism of his 08 Tour 4th:
"I was really pissed. I told him that right away. He apologised right away. That's all I asked for."

Perhaps it's because other cars are putting special fuel in their tanks.

But we already know you don't care about that...

Scuse my ignorance, but why is it terrible timing?

I presume the OP was referring to CVV crashing out of the Giro.

... which seriously messes with his Tour prep.

Ah right, that sucks for him. What's the damage?

He's already training on the turbo.
