Annoying noise

This morning quite a loud "clicking" noise developed whilst pedalling to work.
For a while it had just been a "creak" but now is most definitely a "click" :?
It only happens when pedalling forwards (I tried pedalling backwards when going downhill)...
Any ideas?
Could I need to remove pedals and cranks and regrease them?

Suggest it's the bottom bracket or the pedals. Only way to test is eliminate one at a time. Unless it's an open system (which it's prob not) greasing any bearings will be impossible.
Ensure everything it torqued correctly first of and like I said eliminate one at a time.0 -
cheers pal, I'll start with the pedals and hope its not the bottom bracket due to expense!0

Pedals and BB are a good first approach.
But because the sound can resonant through the tubes the source could be somewhere else but appear to come from the BB.
Another possibility is the saddle.0 -

Could be any one of a number of things. Work your way through that - it's just a process of elimination0 -
Had this a couple of times when it turned out to be a broken spring in the freehub unit, the sound transferred forwards to the BB area. Unusual but something to be aware of.0

Thanks for all of the advice, I'll see what happens tonight, I'll start with the pedals that looks the easiest!0

I had a clicking coming from my chainset last week, thought it was either bottom bracket or pedals. Took the pedals off at the weekend and gave them a very good clean, regreased the theads and no more clicking. Fingers crossed it may be the same.Sunday September Ultegra SL

I get a really annoying clicking noise when I pedal on both of my bikes, unfortunately it's my knees

Why are MTB economics; spend twice as much as you intended, but only half as much as you wish you could afford? :roll:0 -
Wotcha,
Could I also suggest that you have a look at your seat post and seat.
Grit is constantly thrown up at these items and if the click is heard whilst you pedal (and you're seated) it could be a tiny piece of grit between your seat post and seat tube, or a piece of grit between the rail and the clamp on your saddle ;-)
I run a small amount of silicone sealant along the clamp under the seat rail, this tends to work very wellAnders

Thanks for all of the helpful advice, i seem to have cured the problem by thoroughly cleaning the seat post and the saddle rails.
Click free journey to work today and hopefully a quiet blast around Cannock Chase tomorrow apart from my screams!0
