New to biking after discectomy

Hi there,
I am about the purchase my first bike since I was a kid but i recently had back surgery (June last year) and had a discectomy which is beginning to affect me as I have not had any proper exercise for a while. I need to do some biking so just wondered if anyone out there could suggest a good mountain bike to get me started?
