Hi Folks,
Decided to get a new hardtail - see my other post here:
http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12699761
I'm using the bike to work scheme and have to go through either Evans or Cyclescheme. This knocked out my two front runners for choise of bike - The Carrera Fury and The Decathlon Rockrider 8.1.
Looking at Pauls Cycles, the have a 2009 Caldera for £550 (down from £830) and a Mongoose Amasa Super £530 (down from £700).
2 Questions - which would you go for out of these & can you think of a better bike for under £600?
Also, I'm not sure if the 2009 Caldera has a lockout, but am pretty sure the Mongoose does (Mongoose - "Rock Shox Tora 302 U-Turn, 85-130 mm travel, Turn Key lock out")
I do a fair bit of cycling on the road or old railway lines, how much difference will a lockout make and is it worth seeking a bike specifically for this reason?
Cheers
Pete

63 folk read this and not one can help me out?!
did find another thread on a £550 cycle scheme bike so am investigating the hardrock pro disc 2010

I would try the Carrera Fury at Halfords.
The Mongoose and Caldera are both good bikes, the former a little more heavy duty. And better than the hardrock.0 -
Hang about some dodgy pubs in Edinburgh and you might find an Amasa Super going cheap[/img]
Having ridden both I preferred the Mongoose, felt a bit more solid and I liked the u-turn forks, although the Caldera felt a little quicker from what I remember. What else do Evans have around the same price?0 -
I'd like to try the fury, but there's not much point as my company don't use halfords for their bike to work scheme0
