some small organisations for instance are told that they must install disabled ramps and toilet facilities, which in principle is an excellent idea, but i have heard of a few instances where the cost of installing such facilities is absolutely astronomical and simply cannot be afforded.
    what should you do?

I have to say I'm quite pleased to have posted something that somebody else feels warrants quoting in not one but two threads, even if that someone else thinks what I've written is tosh! On that basis, Willhub must be made up right now!

Apparently I'm a member of a lot of brigades - Im losing track tbh. The PC brigade is probably the most well known and all of us here are in the lycra lout brigade, but the best brigades I've been told I'm a member of are the 'perverts brigade', the 'rice rocket brigade' and, just yesterday in fact, the 'red braces brigade'.

Rants against this sort of thing should properly be directed at the Health and Safety brigade, not the PC gone mad brigade.

Its not health and safety, it is the Disability Discrimination Act, which has the outrageous assumption that people with disabilities should not be barred from access to public buildings. I know its a bike forum, but that shouldn't preclude signs of human decency and empathy for those who have greater difficulty with day to day life. Still, I suppose you have no disability, so why give a stuff???

Thanks to our new Green MP when you're going to hell in your diesel powered, polluto-mobile, passing the bloodied corpses of baby polar bears, tigers and natter-jack toads accompanied by your excma addled, UV scorched, GM modified, pamper clad scrote babies, we, the lycra clad citizens of 'B-right-on', will be living in a green, pollution free organic utopia where everday folk of any class, creed or colour can walk the streets proudly wheeling their green carbon framed bicycles without fear of being cyber-molested by dim wits.

At least, that's what it said on the Green party leaflet that got shoved through my letterbox.

Another phrase is "Nanny State", usually voiced by those who often say "something should be done about..." Social norms have changed over the years and people are less inhibited about expressing themselves, which is a "good thing". Sadly this is sometimes taken as an opportunity to be offensive, the claim that everything can be covered by "good manners" is often made by people with bad manners but no realisation of that fact. :(

Unfortunately some people, feeling themselves part of a persecuted minority, act offensively, either to emphasize their status or excercise prejudices of their own; demanding a freedom from criticism but denying it to others. I think that it is a British characteristic to be tolerant of others, oddly there are many who take pride in their Britishness who seem to have little tolerance.

Much of the H & S madness is due to our weaselly insurance industry and the risk-averse premiums applied to events such as bike races on the open road.

There you go, we got a cycling reference in eventually :)
