just been reliably informed by the management that i am getting a payrise.

however, before i start looking for a new bike, the rise is on a par with the cost of a mars bar.

Superb, my employer thinks nothing of doubling my workload and giving me a paltry 2.5% rise.

last laugh is on me though, as i am actively looking to leave within the next 3 months (yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah)

At elast you've got a job, we're going through (another) round of redundancies
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

We get two payrises each year...one is an incremental rise (you get this each year until you reach the top of the grade), and the other is a cost of living rise.

So last month I got my incremental payrise, which now means I'm now at the top of my paygrade...so I'm pleased to have got a rise, but not so pleased that I'm at the top and won't have a guaranteed rise each year...unless of course I get a job on a higher scale!

Doubt I'll get a 'cost of living' payrise this year though...last year it was just 1% but its not looking like we'll even get that this year :(

We've had a pay freeze for the last two years, and a 2% pay rise the year before that. -_-

i got a 2% payrise in april, it only works out as about an extra 40 quid in my account once it has been taxed and insured.

i get a little bit more in june too which is nice.

I've been informed this morning that when my boss leaves, his post will be made redundant. They're putting me and my coworker under a new boss, who has got us a budget, making us managers of minions ( :D ) getting us a room with windows, and, the best bit, is going to go through our Job Descriptions, get a Job Evaluation, and hopefully *touches wood* we'll be going up a couple of pay grades.

    Woooooooooooooooooo!

That's how much I paid myself as a bonus too. Although I suspect 20% of your salary is significantly more than 20% of mine :(

Of course, I get taxed significantly less in the first place.

    'tis a bummer

on the upside, I can sleep easy knowing that half of the time I spend working is helping some scally family pay for their tracksuits and fags.

I used to winge about it, but given my bonus is probably more than they could earn in a year even if they were employed, I can't help but think I'm overpaid in the grand scheme of things. I'm 29 and want for nothing (other than a shot at Cheryl Cole's ass I suppose), and there are far too many people who graft their entire lives and never get to do the things they really want.

We are the lucky ones. If you have a job and you can buy a bike, life is sweet. I don't ask for much more (other than maybe some goddam time to ride the thing!)

Lol 20% payrise for me was not a lot at all if i'm honest... and by not a lot i mean really really not a lot. Seeing as my job is temporary and i'm just a student, thankfully its exam time in the schools, which means invigilation time for me... sitting down doing nothing for £7.50 an hour, now that i can do.

i can't believe i actually typed that, the brainwashing my firm does obviously works. I worked just over 100 hours in 5 days last week trying to close a £2.7 billion deal which had to be closed before the election or it would have burned because the tories didn't like it.

didn't leave a board room for a week other than to poop, shave and grab 2 hours kip every couple of days.

    am i bollocks overpaid!!!!

See, now I'm jealous of people with loads of money, but then I think, bollocks to 20 hour days! I work hard when I'm at work, but I don't want to spend that much time there
