i guess it will still be at a greater risk of a trashing if you get a flat, compared with a tub...
and they are not cheap either...and not that light.....1557g for the clincher, vs 1278g for the tub version

fcuk me! 25% heavier?
whats the point? just get tubs! never seen the point in deep clinchers really.......0 -
well... 22% anyway... I guess it is responding to the market demand. i.e people wanting the benefit, but not the percieved hassle with tubs... maybe vanity over performance?
It took me a bit to get over the inertia to move to tubs on my carbon wheels, but so far, so good and i'm glad i made the move.0 -
What's the benefit/negative issues of the carbon wall being part of the rim; where the spokes adjoing the wall like these and a fairing type wheel (al la Mavic - http://s.wiggle.co.uk/images/mavic%20co ... %20pre.jpg ) where they go all the way through to the edge of the wheel.
Sorry if this is highjacking the thread but it seems relevant.0 -
the mavics, together with the majority of carbon clinchers, use a bonded aluminium braking surface, rather than a full carbon rim. Zipp also had a 404 with this style of construction.
previously Zipp said they couldn't make a safe full carbon clincher rim which could cope with the combined forces of heat generated by braking, which in turn heated the air in the tyre, exerting an outward pressure on the bead ofthe clincher tyre, and the cornering lateral forces
see previous threads...

one of my cub mates called cycling a "boutique sport" and i thought this was a great analogy....it doesnt matter how crap you are, as long as you look good.
on the flip side, we were out 2 weels ago and Graeme Obree was out on a sunday ride with Fullarton Wheelers...riding an old Specialised Allez shed or something similar, with a beat up 10 yr old white pisspot helmet and an old yellow waterproof jacket. It was brilliant. proof it is not the bike - He would still have ripped the legs off anyone there. Much respect!0 -
1557g for carbon clinchers at nearly £1800!!!! Blimey, makes my Gigantex wheels from Wheelsmith look even more brilliant, sub 1500g and only £425.Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?
