Can anyone recommend a roof (or other type of) rack that I could use in order to take 4 bikes down from London to la Marmotte in July. needs to fit on an Audi a6.
Many thanks. Patrick

I recently bought the Avenir Nevada on the not-particularly-scientific basis that it's reasonably cheap, scored OK in Cycling Plus (about 6 months ago there was a review of a bunch of bike racks), and goes on the back of the car (note: not on the towbar).
Haven't used it yet, so unfortunately can't recommend/criticise it yet (sorry - I know that's not very helpful).
But the choice is pretty limited for 4-bike racks, which makes the choice that much easier.0 -

I use a Thule rack with 4 bikes on it reguarly on an Audi Allroad(same as A6). A roof rack is a good way to go for long journeys as you still keep access to your boot. It will cost you abit more on the ferry due to the extra height. You buy the racks and then you can add up to 4 bike holders, this also means you can use it with fewer bike holders and you also get the versitility of the roof bars which i've used without the bike holders on to carry a long ladder and wood planks.0

If you have a towbar , take a look at maxx raxx , it's towbar mounted but tilts so you still have full access to the boot .
They do a 4 bike version and although not cheap is worth every penny , also saves the drag and increase in fuel consumption from roof mounting , if you do go for the roof option , look at roofbox.co.uk , they do a range which is made in spain , good quality but much cheaper than thule. cheers0
