  • It's actually quite a nice looking bike, aesthetically. Muddy Fox used to be a big name many moons ago, but I think they've changed their priorities a lot since then... It doesn't give away much on the spec either.

For the budget, have a look at the Carrera Vulcan in Halfords. A highly rated bike.

It shares the same frame as this...

The reason I am looking at Muddyfox is because they look good and appear to have a decent spec and there are stacks of Vulcans and Treks about.

    How about the Raleigh AT30?

Better fork, worse (cable) brakes, otherwise much the same......

    How about this

Cheaper with the better capa forks and still hydraulic discs

Or this http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/p ... DDYFOX.htm not sure of the difference to teh above for the extra £40 though.

One more thing to consider, I weigh 22 stone, will I destroy cheaper bikes quicker than expensive ones?

Not sure about destroy.....cheaper componenets will never last as long as more expensive (assuming more expensive actually means better, which mostly it does), at 22 stone clearly you'll be giving some of the components a much harder time, wheel bearings and drive components (chain, bottom bracket, chain wheels and rear gears), but anything vaguely decent will still last you a few hundred miles if looked after, by then hopefully you'll be down a bit in weight, then can upgrade as you have to replace parts as you go.

I really hope they made a mistake with the weight there. 18kg

Adam S, the reason you see a lot of Vulcans about is because they're great value for the money :P I'd be tempted to wait for the next Carrera sale at Halfords and pick up a cheap Vulcan, or see what Decathlon have available. Although the best bike is whatever fits best - if you can try the muddyfox and it fits okay then go for it :)

The Gila Pro is a better fork than the Capa - features hydraulic damping.
