Ouch. Did they stop? Did you get their reg number? Worth reporting as it goes on their file...

The police will never do anything.

Yesterday I was at a crossing, lights went red, old man on one of those mobility scooter things was crossing road, to get half way, when a Honda Civic came swerving out, "Beep beep" lukilly the guy on the scooter thing stopped, but this guy caned it through the lights, on red, on the wrong side of the road, there was about 10 cars at the lights. Dunno wtf the guy in the Honda Civic was thinking.

A Honda - thats an Asian car - was it being driven by an asian, good for nothing drug dealer with a green carbon bike?

True, they probably won't, but it could tip the balance against white van man next time he cuts up another cyclist, if there's already a report on their file.

Are those two statements linked? if so i dont see what the correlation is? If not the OP hasnt even said if they were called for them to do anything!

you were lucky it was a thinking driver in a Honda - it could have been a braindead yuppie in a BMW - then it would have been curtains!

Not really true that is it.
A injury RTC should be called in on 999 straight away and Police will attend and deal at the scene.
If vehicle drives off then still needs to be reported to Police as a fail to stop, agian on 999 and then you may be requested to attend a stn.

As to seeing some one drive recklessly.... no there is very little Police can do with just one persons say so..... other wise you could drive just a little too close to some one one day and they report you... would you want Police to come and arrest you for that??

If there is 2 INDEPENDANT witness to a incident then some thing can be done, but only then and it is difficult to make any thing stick in court.

But the long and short of it is..... if you don't report it Police can do bugger all about any thing can they!

OP -- if you did get hit by the white van and not already done so, make sure you report it to your local force mate.

Bexley - hope you're ok!! Heal up soon!!

If you need any advice theres many threads on this already in the commuting forums. British Cycling and the CTC (if you're a member) can usually handle claims/advice if you need them to. The driver has 24 hours to report the collision to the Police as injury has occured too, otherwise he may be commiting an offence.

Clearly not, but they're on a similar subject, rather than starting a new thread, I thought I'd simple put it into my post, no crime against that. People can choose to read it or not. Then you get the odd few that like to be really picky and make a mountain out of a microscopic mole hill.

What, the driver getting a slap on the wrist. You hear about stuff happening to cyclists all the time and nothing gets done about it.

If you can get the Reg of the van & the Reg of a witness or flag a witness down and report it to police and take the prick to court!

Obviously too late now, and when your getting kncoked down your try to stay alive rather than clock Reg numbers.

but always clock the Reg and report it. Take the bastard to court even if there are no witness.

Thats not the Police's fault is it. Police will arrest some one and deal with them and they then get passed to the courts.... its the courts who do the slapping on the wrist. Do you really think Police want idiots out on the roads causing more problems or criminals out commiting crimes and making more work for them, or do you think they would rather they were all banged up so they can get back to there dohnuts???
