Hi,

I'm converting my MTB (Specialized Hardrock) into a tourer. Does anyone know if you can fit front pannier racks to suspension forks? Think they're RST some-thing-or-other.

On the other hand because they're not great forks, and I could be in the market for some ones that lock out, does anyone know any suspension forks that a front pannier rack may fit?

Cheers,

Rich

Very few front racks will fit on suspension forks. www.oldmanmountain.com do some - I think Tubus front racks can be fitted with an adaptor.

I don't think any suspension fork on the market has eyelets from a front rack - only a purpose built rack can be used.
  • if you are going to be mostly touring on road and are thinking of replacing the forks, have you considered getting a rigid fork? One less thing to potentially break/maintain. (You can still go off-road without suspension forks - everyone did in the old days!).

The RST forks are only polymer-based too as far as I know - not 'real' oil-based forks. My 2005 Hardrock was.

Ditch 'em :D slick tyres work well on this bike for road use too

A rigid fork and slicks is definately the way to go, much lighter too.

If you are desperate for suspension then an 80mm fork with lockout would be best, and one of these http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Tubus ... 360025263/

    Hi
I am touring with a mtb with front suspension and last tour tried out a tubus tara which was a nightmare, but now have a tubus swing rack which is awesome - its fixed on really securely and have had no problems so would recommedt that. The only thing is to check the width of your forks at the top to make sure the rack will fit... I just emailed my bike specs to a shop that sold the racks and asked them to confirm it would fit!

    cheers

caromac: Please tell us all what sort of forks you have the Tubus Swing fitted to. Nobody - including Tubus - seems to be prepared to say what they will or won't fit.

Axiom make a couple of models.

The old model that won't fit some forks if they have valves, adjusters or footnuts at the base of the fork near the dropout or if the base or the fork is lower than the height of the dropout:

and the new model that solves the above problems and will fit more forks:
