Cycling Clubs in North London

Hi,
I have been looking at joining a cycling club in north London having just moved to the area, the closest one to me is in Edgware but from the website I get the impression its more a leisurely focused club, which is not exactly what I was looking for - My issue is that I want to start road racing (I have done long cycles 60 miles plus before and track cycling, but not really races). I find that I am put off the larger clubs which seem to focus on TTs and sportives exclusively as I am new to this and although fit, I think I need some more experience of club riding first. Could anyone suggest a club in the north London area that is both suitable for beginners yet is focused towards racing?
Big ask I think!!!
Cheers,
Laurence

Hi Laurence,
You should try the Kenton Road Club. I really need to update the website, but all the contact info is the same.
Our clubruns leave from Kenton Library on Sunday's, fairly leaisurely this time of year as most of us are racing, but there will be a lot of experiance on those.
Club nights are Friday's in North Harrow.0 -
I'm sure there are a number of club in North London. In addition to Kenton there is also..
Finchley CC (quite a big racing contingent!)
Willesden CC
Finsbury Park CC0 -
Thanks for the suggestions guys!!0

London Phoenix, although based all the way across London have several Sunday rides and a Saturday ride every week leaving from North London (Finchley or Whetstone).
There is also training in Regents Park on Tuesday and Thursday. A very relaxed and friendly club with a variety of racing abilities and types (Road, Cross, Mountain etc). Take a look here: http://www.londonphoenix.co.uk/ - Click 'Join us' for details relevant to new members and see the home page for news from competitions.
I don't know what level you are at but on the road we have loads of Cat 4s and 3s, with a fair representation at cat 2. Almost all of those are 'home grown' having started riding with LP but we welcome current racers too.0 -
Also Rollapalluza CC
http://www.rollapaluza.cc/
Weekly rides are organised through their forum (http://www.rollapaluza.cc/forum/) with regular Saturday rides (usually setting off from either Lea Bridge Road or Highgate). Also regular Sunday rides, though these tend to be south.
Weekly training in Regents Park, no pressure to race although there are a few regular racers at most London Leagues (track, road, cx).0 -

finchley wont take you unless you are a current cat 2 license holder (or so im told by one of their members)
finsbury park are a lovely bunch but are a bit too far away from where you are. Rides go out of potters bar i think in the winter.
I dont know anything about willesden,
I joined London Phoenix when posed with the same dilemma 18months ago, and i dont for a second regret it (they might tell you differently...). Lovely people, great atmosphere, good people to ride with of varying standards. Not too far from where you are.BMC TM01 - FCN 0
Look 695 (Geared) - FCN 1
Bowman Palace:R - FCN 1
Cannondale CAAD 9 - FCN 2
Premier (CX) - FCN 6

Hi,
I have just moved to West Hampstead and looking to join a club in North London. Having started racing this summer I am looking for a club that has a large racing component I can learn from. Particularly I am keen to find a club that has chain gangs / hard training rides I can get involved with.
Two clubs I have been considering are Finsbury Park CC and Willesden CC. Another option is London Dynamo all be it not in north London.
If anyone has an opinion on the above mentioned or any other recommendations I would be very grateful.
Thanks0 -
I used to live in West Hampstead and ride with London Phoenix. 3 miles to the meeting point for club rides, with a good hill climb upto Hampstead to warm up.
Great club, great members (apart from that chap above ) quick when it needs to be.0 -
Great thanks, think I am going to give the Phoenix a try.0

There's also Pretorius Cycles in Shoreditch. They run shop rides on the weekend. The Saturday rides are hard, Sunday rides are slower/shorter.
The ride discipline is excellent, and it's a very friendly bunch.

I'm based in N London (N14) and have been looking out for a club/group to join, where do London Phoenix meet? apart from RP as already mentioned.0

Most rides start/finish at The Bald Faced Stag in East Finchley.0
-
Do LP ride on Sundays from the Bald Faced Stag? Based in Edgware and head out to Herts on my loops,so getting to Finchley is not a hassle.
Bit hard to tell from the above.0 -
The early ride leaves East Finchley at 7:30, the later (social pace) ride leaves Whetstone at 8:30. I plan on joining the later one this Sunday. It will be my first...0
