Pedal problems

Having problems with my shimano pedals. just been out for a gentle recovery ride with the Mrs after slogging round the Colne valley mtb challenge this morning, and my left pedal started locking up - stops rotating so it drags my foot forward. it appears to have grease showing where as the other pedal is dry.
I plan to take it into the LBS next week but wondered if anyone could throw any light on the problem.
Steve.

I'm guessing your pedals don't have cartride bearings, but loose ones ?
Sounds like the bearing cone has tightened itself and crushed everything.
So I doubt new bearings will fix this.
Pedals with cartridge bearings are really worth the extra money - they experience a higher load than anything else on the bike...XT or XTR, a very worthwhile upgrade.0
