Looking for suggestions as to what will replace std STOUT/M525 hubs/X430 wheelset on Enduro SL 2008

Rovals - any good?
Industry 9 - any good?

I would ditch the current wheels and get some slightly wider Mavic rims to get a better profile with 2.35" tyres.

I don't like the idea of converting down from 25 to 20mm for more choice ...unless someone can convince me it is the way to go.

i have rovals fitted to mine (but with a 20mm fork) they are the best wheels i have ever used but i got mine for 350 quid and for that money, i cant thnk of a better wheelset.

i9 wheels look amazing and are tempting just on aesthetics alone, they are so pricey that not many folks on here have actaully tried them.

    i fitted a lyrik:

mainly because i had some spare cash and fancied a change, also was the reliability problem i had with the fork, it only failed once and was repaired and upgraded in less than 2 days and worked beautifully, but i lost faith in it.

    Shiney = Good :)

So many questions. So little time.

So as no-one else is watching or reading this: Are those bouncy seat post things any good? I kinda like the idea of lifting the seat real high when I can as it lets me strech my legs (avoiding cramp)...but then dropping it low for those downhill moments.

and you have a tensioner on there. What is it attached to? The Chain Stay?

I'd go for the industry nine wheels and stans flow rims.

the chain tensioner is attached to the iscg tabs on the frame around the bottom bracket. the post is amazing, so good in fact i have one on my stumpjumper too for the exact reasons you have mentioned.

Still not sure what to do about wheels. Front is in the LBS with a broken spoke. The feel of the forums is that this might be the first of many :/

Rear is an M525 which is very non-inspiring. That basic hub is used everywhere and I don't think I like Shimano hubs. Sealed are so much easier/cleaner to service.

you could have new rims built onto the existing front hub and replace the rear with something better perhaps? would certainly be cheaper than a new set of wheels but essentially fulfill the same task of being improvements.

I'm also running Roval Traverse's on my 2008 Enduro SL. Had them nearly a year and they have been amazing. I've only had to change the front bearings once.

They are the perfect wheel for the Enduro - light, strong, wide 28mm rim and fit the 25mm thru axle out of the box.

I9's are nice but £700+ is a lot to pay.

Rovals should be turning up tomorrow :)

    £359

I'll weigh the Speccy wheels (after the LBS has sorted them out) and compare them to the Rovals. Might be a Winter/Summer config coming up...especially as I can't work out how much the Speccy STD wheels with X430 on would fetch.

    From where?
I can only find them with a 20mm bolt through hub

    "OS28-compatible for Future Shock forks"

I hope it means they come with a converter in the box. Got me worried now. It should be the 25mm.

Front hub: includes quick-change 20mm/15mm/QR axle caps

    OS28-compatible for Future Shock forks
That's the bit that worries me as Spesh do the E120 futureshock with 15mm bolt-thru IIRC.

OK I posted this on the Specialized forum on MTBR
Just a dumb question really. In the details/description it states
Front hub: includes quick-change 20mm/15mm/QR axle caps

    OS28-compatible for Future Shock forks
    I'm assuming that OS28 is the E150 25mm Bolt-thru?
    and got this reply
No, the OS28 is oversized end caps for the specialized forks, it creates a much stiffer interface, while allowing you to use a standard QR.
I'm going to phone Specialized to confirm whether or not the wheels are indeed compatible with the E150 :? It sounds like you use a 9mm QR and end caps instead of the bolt through to me?Which will be nowhere near as stiff ....surely :?

the second adapter is the os28, it is not for a 25mm axle. i think since spesh have dropped the e150, they dont feel the need to build the compatible converters anymore.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news guys, but I recently purchased the Roval EL wheelset and they did not come with 25mm adapters.
20mm, 15mm, QR and OS28 adapters only. Don't know much about the weird looking OS 28, but it is definately not 25mm. Sorry. :(

I'm waiting to hear back from the guy but it looks like you use the OS28 and a QR instead of the 25mm Bolt-thru :?

I agree, I can't see how it can be as stiff. At least they will be compatable though.

the os28 is for use with normal qr dropouts, it offers a bigger interface on the inside face of the fork dropout for extra stiffnes but currently only works on spesh forks and rockshox qr forks too.

there is a modified version called os24 for fox forks.

I'm going to contact Spesh tomorrow.Surely there's a way around this.

After much digging and reading it appears that THESE fit.All you have to do is remove the bearings and install 2X6805RS bearings and your original end caps and Roberts your fathers brother.

Just a pity they only come in red

I'll have to buy a new fork then to match the hubs/wheels :)

What number do you ring when you contact Specialized?

    020 8391 3517 Duncan Cruxton.Customer services.

Ducan has always been very helpfull/knowledgable.

I've just spoken to him and the 2010 Rovals are NOT compatible with the fork or the 08/09 converters. They are trying to resolve this.

    Cyclestore.co.uk says:

"Hi there, I have just Rang Specialized and they have some 25mm spacers available so we can add them to the wheels and then they should work with your forks."

It is all very exciting isn't it. Can it be done...or can't it?

I've also asked them if they can repeat this process/order if it works, as there might others out there that have the same requirement.

According to Specialized UK tech bloke i spoke to the profile of the 2010 hubs is much narrower than the 08/09 so the spacers will definately not fitas the absolute max bolt-thru is 20mm..The Specialized concept store also confirmed this.
Give him a ring on the above number.

    Square Peg. Round Hole.

They won't fit. Having all the converters, axle, hub & fork in hand everything seems clearer. (yes, I have very big hands!) :)

Like your man said, the 2010 Rovals are simply too narrow (diameter) to take a 25 mm thru axle. To get a 25mm thru - you'd have to start removing the bearings and inner spacer thing, but then you are into dodgy ground as there just isn't a lot of room left. The 9 and 15 are simple enough and of course it looks like a 20mm-thru out of the box.

Rovals are quite pretty though. I do like the hubs.

    Back to the drawing board.
