have a Giant Defy and want to upgrade my seatpost. What do you recommend? Needs to be 30.9mm width.

Depends on your budget, Thomsons are always pretty well regarded.
Personally I have Controltech Posts on 2 of my bikes and cannot fault the quality and are pretty light too.

Can I ask the reason why do you want to upgrade?

do you want a lighter seat post? do you want a more 'bling' seat post? Do you want a carbon one for a better ride?

    Also, whats your budget?

Got one of these on my MTB

Price wise within budget, quite light at 220gms and the finish is as good as Thomson posts.
It ovalised/butted internally to retain strength whilst keeping the weight down.

Strong enough for off road use so will be fine on road.

Theres no benefit in upgrading your seatpost unless its bust. Spend the dosh on sportier tyres or some go faster sunglasses. Its usually new shades that gives me my best boost.
