Giant Defy Advanced 3 vs TCR Advanced 4

Hi

I am looking for a road bike and am toying between the TCR and the Defy from Giant. This is my first serious road bike, having come from MTB land with a Giant Anthem Advanced. I live in fairly hilly country and am average in terms of fitness. I do like the TCR, but the 39/52 front gearing puts me off as it sounds like I would struggle with some of the hills around here. The Defy is 34/50 which sounds a little kinder if not as fast as the TCR.

I am 42 years old, 6ft 2 ins and around 15st.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

depends what sort of riding your going to be doing i guess, my advice is limited as im pretty new myself, but I have the defy. Its aimed at more sportive based riding than the tcr so is comfier for longer distances. the tcr is a bit more racey feeling (lower front end / longer and bigger gearing as you mention).

coming from mtb myself, i wanted something that didnt feel completely 100% uncomfortably alien and yet still give me a good taste of what road cycling is about. The defy is awesome for me and I love it. I will probably get something a bit racier in a year or so but will hang onto the defy as a commuter.

    sorry i cant help anymore
