Having decided that it is time to retire the Khamsins I am looking in to a new set of hoops. After an afternoon of surfing I have subsequently decided that handbuilts are too expensive for what I want to achieve -
The fastest, lightest, and strongest wheels for the least amount of money. They would be used for racing and summer use.
After speaking to my LBS I was recommended Mavic Ksyrium, on the basis of their "bomb-proofness" however in my opinion I think that they are a bit on the lardy side (1550g). I have been uming and ahing about the new Planet-X carbon 50s (1296g) but the guy in the shop said that his mate "pringled" one after not very long. I have just noticed Fuerte Bici Carbon 20s (1242g) too.
I am a very light rider at the moment at 58kg but I may well get heavier seeing as I'm 16. I'm not a particularly powerful rider but at 6'2" I'm definitely not slow, but climbing is what i prefer and am best at.
I would be very greatful for you advice as to which wheels would be most suitable for me as I don't really know,
Thanks,
Max.

The 1242g Fuerte Bicis are tubs - is that what you want?
I've seen a few recommendations for Bike Soul wheels. Their S2.0 clinchers are 1330g and 470 USD.Rider weight limit of 95kg, but you probably won't put on that much weight.

Light.
Cheap.
Strong.
Pick two.0 -
the planet x's are tubs only - has that entered your thinking?0

Yeah I know that they are tubs but I'm not particularly bothered, I had tubs on a vintige Bianchi and so I know what to do if I get a puncture. I had a lot of practice putting tubs on at the roadside.0

I've had a look at the Soul wheels and they look quite promising. I think that they are definitely going to be more durable that the carbon wheels, cheaper too.0
