Don't want/need a full face helmet - but this looks like a possible half way between that and an ordinary helmet - which would be good for the sort of riding that I'm begining to do much more of - but is it any good?

Thanks for that. It's one of those things that looks like it could be a good idea - but if it is why hasn't it caught on?

I've got a Zen - no complaints really - just gettin worried about smashin' me face in - must be getting old or something!

I've just bought myself a Specialized Deviant Carbon.

It was a choice between that or the Casco Viper, but with the Deviant, I can still enter DH races if I want to (I'm only on a HT, so I'll never be doing any particularly gnarly DH).

It's not arrived yet so I cant say how cool it is against regular and FF helmets, but I guess it's going to be somewhere inbetween.

People love that pic but if he hit hard enough to do that he'd probably have been hurt anyway, you can't just say "Oh, the Parachute caused him to be injured", you have to wonder what injury it might have prevented. Broken jaw, permanent face scarring, loss of teeth etc.

I don't like the things, seem to reduce the risk of facial injury at the expense of increasing the risk of spinal injury but they do seem to work, I've seen some proper crashes with them (faceplant off the woodwork in glentress freeride park was a good one) and they've done what they're supposed to each time. But I wouldn't wear one. If it's evil looking enough that I want a full face I'd get a real full face.

TBH just get a proper full face and keep your hex.

For the price of a parachute you could get something like a 661 evolution.

You would have a full face for when you need to feel brave but you would still have the hex for those calmer rides.

Well, the idea of the Parachute is that you can ride it like you would an XC helmet, it's definately not a fullface replacement.

    I know it isn't.

But thats what I do, have you not noticed half the time I am wearing a full face, the other half a pisspot

All I'm trying to say is, judge what you are about to do and then make the descision and think, do I need a full face or not.

The parachute still won't be perfect ventilation wise because there is still something infront of your mouth. Thats the only problem I find with me evo, it sometimes gets difficult to breath on the ups because of this

    I have a reasonable fitness.

I can normally beat Northwind to the top of a hill with him on a hardtail and me on a full sus
