Dual ring chainguide advice

A mate of mine is looking to swap his big ring with a chain device and bashguard, to stop his chain coming off on rough descents.
He has seen this and seems to tick all the boxes: http://www.bikeradar.com/mtb/gear/categ ... e-10-37475
Gamut P30 Dual Chainguide.
Does anyone use one of these?
Anything else he should consider?
Also looking at this:http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Gamut-P30-Dual-Chainguide_35673.htm
It says 22-36t, I presume the 36 is the max teeth size and he would be ok with say a 34t middle ring.

I don't have personal experience, but the Gamut is meant to be very good, a lot of good stuff being said about it. Im actually thinking of investing in one my self. And yes, a 34 tooth ring will be fine, 36 is just the max.0
