seat post problems

hi all looking for a bit of advice please, i have a giant seat post (cfo2 6 ) marked on it but its too long for me, someone has suggested that i cut it down, can i do this? the seat clamp/ adjuster looks to be glued in and i really wouldnt know where to start

    I take it you are dicussing an integrated seat post?
    Start with a budget, finish with a mortgage!
