Finally bitten the bullet and swapped the aksiums/vittoria zaffiros my CAAD9 Ultegra SL came with to a beautiful set of Ultegra 6700s and vittoria diamante pro's. Bike looks fantastic AND wheels/tyres/cassette and skewers 710g lighter! Now all i need is man flu to clear up and get out on the bike. Aksiums my be bombproof but well heavy. Ultegra hubs look so much better and go with SL groupset really well.

    Is tubeless really worth it?

I was wondering about this as the weight savings seem pretty minimal, eg

Hutchinson Atom in 23c weighs 265g (plus a squirt of sealant ??g)

Michelin Pro3 in 23c weighs 200g. Use a lightweight inner tube (~75g ?) and there's not going to be much in it. And if you end up getting a big hole in the Tubeless tire and have to put an inner tube in anyway then it's going to be 65g heavier than a Pro3 with a tube.

I understand that the ride quality is supposed to be much better with tubeless, but is it THAT much better?

it's not a weight thing. You can go lighter with clinchers.

you get less pressure, so a more supple ride, and more grip as a result, but they still roll well. And no pinch punctures.

I hit a pot hole the other day @ 35mph which actually chipped the ceramic coating on my rim. With a clincher I'd have punctured for sure but not with the tubeless.

Probably going tubeless on next set of tyres or when formula tubeless available.

    Got the option now anyway.
