What s the best option some £400-500 carbon wheels direct from china or similar, or get some named brand non carbon wheels for the same price.

I can't help but think that all carbon wheels come from the same factory anyway and just have stickers applied....so I might as well go carbon and get some good wheels - if so does anybody know a reputable supplier?

Do NOT get cheap Carbon wheels.

Did you ever wonder why the big name wheels cost £1200 and up?

Quality comes at a price. Anyone can make a cheap mould squirt in some plastic callit carbon and sell it cheap

But Carbon is Carbon - its all made in the same place, I can't help but think the cost are all down to marketing, they do the R&D and the guys just pinch the plans and moulds and make them for cheaper.

wheelsmith ....mmmm not sure, aren't all their wheels straight from China anyway???

I got mine from wheelsmith in march.- Rims are gigantex, from Taiwan, but they are hand built by Derek...for £500

They are very nice, aero and hand built and light.(1380g) - they are helping me do sub 22:50 10's on less than perfect evenings on a lumpy course at the moment, with a hope for a sub 22 later in the year on a good night and a flat course. They are also good for our thursday night APRs

They are more than good enough for most riders IMO. They are very good value, YEss i'd like a set of Zipps, but they are not worth the extra £1000. fro that i could buy another 2 sets... it doesn't add up.

I also like the fact that as they are handbuilt, replacement spokes or re-truing won't be an issue - not that i've had a need for either.

Tale this as a recommendation for Wheelsmith

plus he is local (ish) to me -
